A Fun Weekend...
On Friday, Matthew now stays for ensemble practice for an hour. He is a backstage helper. The music teacher told Matt and me that even though he didn't try out, he has heard Matthew sing and if he wants to sing in ensemble he can. Well, after much discussion between Matt and me (with me trying to convince him to sing), I ultimately let him decide what he wants to do. And of course he chose not to sing but to help behind the scenes. So anyway, he stays for practices every Friday, and Makensie and I have to find something to do for an hour. Instead of going home and turning back around to go get him (mostly to save gas), we find something to do around town. I have tried taking her to a nearby dollar store, but I will have to stop doing that b/c she finds many things that she likes and talks me into buying. So on this particular day, I got smart and just took her to the beach park.
On Saturday, we went there again! We had a school family picnic that afternoon. We had a great time. The weather was nice and cool and best of all, the rain held off till the evening time. The kids had fun running around and playing with their classmates while the adults talked and ate :)
Makensie had spent Friday night at her friend Julia's. She had a sleep-over. Matt's friend Adam had stayed w/us that night. So each of them had a full, fun-filled weekend!

Silliness before school...
This is Makensie and Kennedy right before time to take them to school on Friday. I guess they were excited b/c it was the weekend. I remember getting excited on Fridays when I was in school b/c I knew the weekend was finally here. Also, they get to wear jeans and eat pizza for lunch on Friday! That's enough to make anyone excited :)

Matthew's Titanic
I just had to throw this one in... I've mentioned before how Matthew likes to build things w/our DVDs/VHS tapes. Well, his latest interest is the Titanic. He is reading that book, sooooo I guess he thought about it so much that he felt like building it. He took pictures of it from his book, and I thought I'd put those first so you could see the comparison.

Me and My Girl
Can you tell how much Makensie has filled out? Look at her face! She HAS to be going through a growth spurt because right now she seems to be eating more than Matthew. She is always wanting something to eat - Ha!! Her clothes are getting tighter on her too. Just this morning she was getting ready for school and putting on a pair of shorts. She usually wears a skirt, so it's been a couple of weeks or so since she wore shorts, and she told me they were too tight. I guess she'll be moving from a size 6 to a 7/8 now! Boy, life just seems to be changing so fast!
Reading Already!
Wow! I can't believe how much progress Makensie has made just since starting first grade. She is reading like "crazy". Bobby and I are so proud of her. I went to the library and got her some books and she and I read together each night before bedtime. I think my love for reading has been passed down to her. When Matthew first started reading, he did really well but didn't show that interest in it like she is. But actually now, Matthew just loves to learn, and he knows in order to learn, he has to read. He loves history. He brought home a book about the atomic bombing of Hiroshima and he was so intrigued by that. It was very sad reading it actually. He had me read it and I learned things that I would rather not know, but should know. Sometimes we bury ourselves from the truth so we don't have to face it. At least, I know I tend to do that. Anyway, getting back to Makensie: I just had to post some of the many worksheets she brings home each night. She loves homework! Oh, and they both got their progress reports about a week ago and both are making all A's!!!! Yes, I admit it, I am proud of my children! This morning I was looking over her schoolwork and I couldn't help but stop and think back to when Makensie was around 4 months old when she got one of those Johnny Jumpers. We set her up in it in the hallway, and Bobby, Matthew and I just sat in the floor watching her jump in it.....our babies just don't stay little long enough.

Random Pictures of Us...
I think we are finally getting into the "back-to-school" routine. Things seem to be getting easier now that we are used to the fast pace again. Life is much crazier for us when school is in - the homework, studying for tests, packing lunches, PTO meetings, piano lessons, after-school snacks, etc. But I think we are finally getting the hang of it and I'm getting used to the stressfulness of it all. As a mom, I really have no choice :)
Matthew's HotWheels Collection...
When I was uploading pictures to the computer, it was then that I noticed that Matthew had taken 13 pictures of his car collection. If I had seen the pictures sooner, I would have deleted them (at least 12 of them). But I thought since he went through the trouble of taking that many pictures, he must be really proud of his collection. So, I thought I would go ahead and blog one of them. Matthew had laid them all out, counted them and discovered that he now has approximately 125. I just didn't realize that he had taken pictures of all of them :)

"Sleeping Beauty"
Makensie fell asleep on the couch Saturday evening after she went to her friend Adrian's party. She was going to have her party the following afternoon at Pump it Up, but her mom had to move it up a day b/c of the approaching storm. She had a Hannah Montana/Jonas Bros. Party. (Little girls these days!)

An Unusual Weekend...
We "dodged the bullet" this time, as the local news keeps saying. Although we didn't suffer a direct blow from the storm, we did get a significant amount of wind and rain from the outskirts of the storm (the technical term being feeder bands). So, all day Labor Day we had to stay indoors. In fact, pretty much all weekend we've been indoors. I am getting "cabin fever". I work from home, so I'm home most of the time anyway, with the exception of picking the kids up. I am a "homebody". But after a few days or so, I like to get out and get some fresh air. The kids get a day off from school today as well. Both their teachers called Saturday evening to tell us that they were going to go ahead and shut down today with not knowing how significant the damage would be and with some people having left town, needing a day to get back. However, Bobby did go back to work today.
There was signficant flooding along the beach, but not nearly as bad as things could have been - thank the Lord! Oh and by the way, Bobby has video footage of what we experienced, but I'll spare you the pain. Alright, I cannot lie - I recorded some footage too (we were bored okay?). We did at one point think that there was a tornado that blew by. The four of us were all doing our own thing - Bobby relaxing, the kids watching T.V., and I working - when we heard a tremendous gust of wind, and we all stopped what we were doing and ran to the front of the house to see what it was. It must have been a quick-moving tornado b/c we never saw it, but pretty sure that's what it was. The positive part of the whole experience was that we never lost power! We were prepared for it - we stocked up on lots of water, ice, flashlights, batteries, candles, and nonperishables just in case. If there is another threat, we'll be ready!
