I don't have many pictures, but we have been extremely busy. Since the kids started school again, it has been non-stop going. Matthew started his piano lessons again and is still lovin' it. He even got nominated for student council! But, in the end he didn't get picked. He told me today that it was a tie between him and a boy in his class named Cody, and they had to do a tiebreaker and Cody won. Matthew told me that he almost cried :( That makes me want to cry. My baby! Also, they had Ensemble try-outs last Friday and I BEGGED Matthew to try out, but he refused. He said he is a piano player, not a singer. I beg to differ. After all, he is his father's son. Come to find out, he was the only boy in the 5th grade who didn't try out. And every one who tried out got picked! So, the music teacher told him that he could still be involved and go on all the trips with them if he wants to be a backstage helper. I think that is great b/c it might give him an idea of what it's like and make him want to try out next year. I hope so!!
Makensie is not taking ballet this year. I decided to keep her out this go-around b/c, well, I'll just be honest, I didn't like the people who ran the school she attended. She learned some really good ballet moves, but I didn't like the attitude of the "school". The owner and even the receptionist were snobs. It made me feel very uncomfortable and I dreaded going every week. I feel bad now, though, b/c Makensie has been begging me to let her take again. So now my friend Kelly and I are looking into another dance place that we've heard about. It's slightly more expensive, but would probably be worth it if we are happier there. In hindsight, I probably should have just let Makensie take again at the Studio since she's the one taking lessons and was completely oblivious to the stuck-upness of the adults. I guess I was being selfish. But if we go to this new place next year, I feel that if she and I both are happy, then I won't dread taking her every week. (Oh! she still has cheerleading coming up.)
We are keeping our eyes on Hurricane Gustav, crossing our fingers and hoping it will go in another direction. (Keep going west, keep going west - go west young man.) Not that we want it to hit Louisiana or Texas. We pray that it won't be a really strong storm and that no lives will be lost.
Well, this was just supposed to be a little update, but became a big one. The picture above was taken this evening. Since the hurricane might be coming our way, all of the girls in Makensie's class exchanged phone numbers. At least that's what I am guessing. (It's hard sometimes trying to communicate information out of a 6-year-old). Anyway, Makensie had all her BFF's phone numbers and so she had to call each and every one when she got home from school. I thought it was cute, so I took a picture of one of her many girl talks on the phone... I'm sure there are more to come over the next 12 years or so. I've been looking at old pictures lately and when comparing them to her now, she is really filling out. I love my kids so much! :)
Hope everyone is doing well. Next time I'll have more pictures ;)
